Candide Information
Musical: A naive young man believes that 'all is for the best' even when confronted by evil. Originally performed in 1956, additional songs added in 1974. Candide explores a world that is dominated by violence, greed, war, hatred and a series of catastrophic events seemingly unmitigated by goodness, truth, beauty or God. Updated with completely new dialogue.

Casting info for Candide
Although she was not originally announced when the ENO rep brochure was printed, it was announced at one stage that Kristen Chenoweth would be performing the role of Cunegonde. Please note that Kristen Chenoweth has since withdrawn and will not be performing.
The role of Cunegonde will now be taken by Anna Christy (performances from June 23-29) and by Marnie Breckenridge (July 2-12).
The Coliseum Information
Until the recent restoration project, no substantial programme of repair has been carried out on this historic London landmark since it first opened its doors in 1904. The London Coliseum, which is London's largest theatre, is cited as being architect Frank Matcham's crowning achievement. In its 100 year history it has played host to many forms of entertainment, including horse races, musicals, variety, cinema and, since 1968, opera.

From Leicester Square head south down Charing Cross Road towards St Martin's Place.
From Charing Cross head towards Trafalgar Square. Take the north east exit from Trafalgar Square to St Martin's Place.
The London Coliseum is at the bottom of St Martin's Lane, on the junction of St Martin's Place.

But Octavian is half her age, and the Feldmarschallin knows that one day she must give him up to a younger woman. How soon will that time come? When the boorish Baron Ochs charges Octavian to present a silver rose (a traditional engagement gift) on his behalf, Octavian comes face to face with the delightful Sophie; the Feldmarschallin is the first to realise what is going on. The Merry Widow Information
Opera or Operetta: Set in Paris in1905, a three act comedy which includes a can-can at Chez Maxim's. The plot centres around the past love affair between Madame Glavari (the wealthy widow of the title) and Count Danilovitsch - which becomes inextricably entailed with the appalling state of the Pontevedrian economy (they need her cash). Several sub-plots add to the drama - the Ambassador's fondness for young females and his wife's penchant for even younger men - all help to produce an evening of witty songs and lively music.
